Dan Rydell (Josh Charles): Dan and Casey host the show. Dan was once suspended for supposedly promoting the legalization of marijuana in a magazine interview, and it turns out that his brother died in a car accident after smoking dope. He likes Rebecca, a number-cruncher for the parent company who is unimpressed with the fact that he's a sports guy because she was married to a sports guy, and actually still is married to him although she let Dan think they were divorced before she told him the truth. He tends to torture those around him by dwelling on very small things until they become very big things.

Casey McCall (Peter Krause): Casey was married to a woman named Lisa for the last ten years, getting a divorce right as we joined the lives of the SportsNight crew. He has a young son. He and Dana like each other although they deny it all the time. It's hard to tell who the most neurotic person on this show is, but Casey's in the running.

Dana Whitaker (Felicity Huffman): Dana is the show's executive producer. She was dating Gordon, a lawyer who used to be the Love Boat photographer, for most of the season. Then she found out that Gordon slept with Sally, the 90's version of that girl from Weird Science and another producer on the show. Gordon was mad that Dana was more upset that Casey slept with Sally than that Gordon slept with Sally, so he broke off their engagement. If I had to choose, Dana would win the neurotic award.

Isaac Jaffe (Robert Guillaume): Isaac is the fearless leader, always calm and keeping everyone in check. They wrote Guillaume's stroke into the storyline. He came back on the season finale, but I don't know how much of a presence he'll be in the new season.

Jeremy Goodwin (Joshua Malina): Jeremy is extremely smart and always full of useless information (I think this is why I like him so much). He's also very philosophical and usually pipes in with the moral to the story. He went through a rough time when he found out his parents were getting a divorce and that his father had been having an affair almost his entire life. He has a sister Louise who is deaf, so he writes her letters that sometimes serve as voice-overs for the episode. He and Natalie are dating.

Natalie Hurley (Sabrina Lloyd): Natalie is the spunky kid of the group. She has a good head on her shoulders and always does her job well. She and Jeremy have been dating since the middle of the season. Jeremy tried to break up with her once, but she wouldn't accept it. He kept following her around insisting that they were broken up, but she'd just smile sweetly and say, "That's nice, honey, but we really aren't," and go about her business until one day he came to his senses and agreed with her. She is Dana's confidante and never misses an opportunity to remind Dana that Dana is secretly in love with Casey.
